Creating brighter classrooms and environmental focus in Vietnam
Colorful Communities®, Volunteerism
Thoi Lai Primary School, located in the Ben Tre province of Vietnam, is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including rising sea levels, increased temperatures, changes in precipitation and severe weather.
For the first ever COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project in the country, 80 PPG employee volunteers set out to share the importance of protecting the environment all while transforming the classrooms of the school’s 630 students.
Creating a bright and inviting learning environment
The PPG volunteers joined the teachers at Thoi Lai Primary School to create a bright and inviting learning environment for the students and staff. Using cheerful yellow and green paints, they revitalized the school’s 22 classrooms, library and schoolyard.
Meanwhile, the school's students provided inspiration to a local artist who created fun and vibrant murals on interior and exterior walls to raise awareness and illustrate the importance of environmental protection.
Single-use plastic water bottles were prohibited on the day of the event to further educate the students and community members on environmental stewardship.
"We are delighted to help the students of Thoi Lai Primary School have a brighter, happier and more positive place to study," said Nguyen Dinh Long, PPG country manager, Vietnam. "It was also wonderful to see so many PPG Vietnam employees join with members of the community to volunteer for this project. We hope to implement more of these community projects in the future."
